DeMarcus Cousins Says 1 NBA Star’s Talent Is Being ‘Wasted’

Not too long ago, DeMarcus Cousins was considered arguably the best center in the NBA, but some serious injuries rendered him a pedestrian player by the time he turned 30 years of age.

His prime years were wasted playing on a Sacramento Kings team that never made the playoffs when he was there, and he can identify with Trae Young, who, in his view, is wasting away his prime on a mediocre Atlanta Hawks squad.

“I feel like his talent is being wasted,” Cousins said. “His prime is being wasted. Get healthy, get yourself 100% correct. Whether that’s in Atlanta, or you know fingers crossed, San Antonio.”

Cousins told Rachel Nichols that he hopes Young “puts his foot down and uses his power” to get moved to the San Antonio Spurs.

He feels Young, the Spurs, and rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama would be a “match made in heaven.”

Young is currently out with a finger injury, and as Nichols noted, he will be re-evaluated in about four weeks.

That could mean he won’t play again this season.

The three-time All-Star has been the subject of trade rumors for a while, as has his starting backcourt mate in Dejounte Murray, and many believe the Hawks will part with at least one of them this summer.

Meanwhile, although Wembanyama has thus far lived up to the massive hype surrounding him, the Spurs have been an awful team, as he has almost no support.

Young and Wembanyama would be an interesting duo, and since Young is 25, his timeline isn’t that far off of Wembanyama’s timeline.

The one knock on Young is his lackluster efficiency — his 3-point shooting percentage has fluctuated from season to season, and he has shot above 44 percent from the field for a full season just once.

But he should have multiple suitors after the conclusion of this season’s playoffs.
