Size: 2,277 square feet

Indoors: The house is set back from the street, behind a gated driveway. A flight of stairs leads up to a covered porch, and the front door opens into a foyer with a staircase to the second floor.

The living room and kitchen are both upstairs. The living area has a wood-burning fireplace with a stone chimney; sliding-glass doors that open to a wraparound deck; and space for a dining table beside a floor-to-ceiling Palladian window. The kitchen has tall windows that fill the space with light and enough space for a breakfast table.

More stairs lead from the center of this floor to a sunny loft that could be used as a home office or additional guest space.

A short hallway off the kitchen leads to the primary bedroom, which has high, wood paneled ceilings, sliding-glass doors that open to the deck and an en suite bathroom with a deep soaking tub surrounded by windows.

The other two bedrooms are on the lowest level of the house, off the entry. Each is big enough to hold a queen-size bed, and they share a full bathroom with a combined tub and shower. A wine cellar and a sunroom currently used as a den are also on this level.

Outdoor space: The deck off the main level is spacious, with room for separate sitting and dining areas, and ocean views in the distance. The attached garage holds two cars; there is room to park more in the driveway.

It is about a mile from a large park, in a bustling neighborhood with shopping and dining options along nearby stretches of Atlantic Avenue and Carson Street. Public elementary and middle schools are within a five-minute drive.

The Port of Long Beach and the campus of California State University, Long Beach are about 20 minutes away. Driving to downtown Los Angeles or Disneyland, in Anaheim, can take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.

Size: 3,220 square feet

Price per square foot: $497

Indoors: A neat row of hedges divides this property from the sidewalk, and a paved path leads across the lawn to the bright orange front door.

To the left of the foyer is a living room with an original fireplace and large, street-facing windows. To the right is a dining room with a starburst-style chandelier. This space connects to a kitchen with white cabinetry, original tile counters, a sunny breakfast nook with built-in storage, and access to a laundry room and full bathroom.

The family room, off the other side of the kitchen, has a corner fireplace with a raised hearth and a curved stainless steel bar with wood paneling and mirrors. The sunroom, behind the family room, has floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on the backyard and wood doors that open to a small den that could double as a guest room.

The bedroom has floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass door that opens to the backyard; the bathroom has more floor-to-ceiling windows along one side of a sunken tub and shower. The other two bedrooms, off another side of the sunroom, share a full bathroom.
