Nationals Manager Got Creative To Complain About The Umpires

The Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros played a rematch of the 2019 World Series.

Both teams’ realities are very different than what they were back then, though.

Well, that’s true for the Nats: the Astros are still a top-tier team, but Washington has rebuilt since that Fall Classic victory and has lost way more than they have won.

But back to what concerns us: the last play of Wednesday’s game.

The Astros walked things off after a throwing error by the Nationals.

However, Nats manager Dave Martinez thought his team was robbed.

Jake Meyers ran to first base but he didn’t follow a normal path, staying inside and even touching the grass.

Martinez believes that Meyers obstructed first baseman Michael Chavis and that resulted in a bad throw which allowed Jose Abreu to score the winning run and end the game at 5-4 in favor of the Astros.

Well, Martinez then offered one of the most colorful press conferences you will see.

Per Talkin’ Baseball, he brought in photo evidence of Meyers’ trajectory towards first base.

Martinez thinks he should have been called out and the game should have gone to extras with the score 4-4.

The Nationals actually came back from a three-run deficit in the top of the ninth to tie the game at four runs per team.

The umpires didn’t give them a chance.

Houston reached a 39-29 record with the victory, and are still in second place in the AL West.

The 26-40 Nats are last in the NL East and have dropped eight of their last 10 games.
