2 Elite NFL Running Backs Are In A New Type Of Competition

Even with the new NFL season less than three months away, there are two very good and capable running backs currently on the free-agent market.

Ezekiel Elliott, a three-time Pro Bowler, and Dalvin Cook, who had made the Pro Bowl in each of the last four seasons, are both available and waiting for a team to snatch them.

Elliott was a huge part of the Dallas Cowboys’ offense dating back to 2016 when he was the No. 4 pick in the draft.

He took the NFL by storm as a rookie, leading the league with 1,631 rushing yards while also scoring 15 touchdowns and leading Dallas to their best record in nearly a decade.

But over the last couple of years, he has been in slow decline, and he had a career-low 3.8 yards per carry this past season.

The emergence of Tony Pollard as the Cowboys’ newest Pro Bowl tailback apparently made Elliott expendable.

Cook, meanwhile, still seems to be in the prime of his career.

He ran for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022 and was a big reason why the Vikings won 13 regular-season games.

Many people feel he is on his way to joining the Miami Dolphins, a team that has lots of weapons on both sides of the football but has an anemic ground attack.

Cook is originally from Miami, so joining them would seem like a fitting move for him.

But of course, for both he and Elliott, there is the question of how much money they would demand and how many teams would be able to afford them.
