Report: Suns waive veteran point guard Chris Paul, making him a free agent

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly notified veteran point guard Chris Paul that he will be waived, according to TNT NBA Insider Chris Haynes on Wednesday.

Paul will now become a highly coveted free agent this off-season, and is available to sign with any team he chooses.

Haynes also reported that Paul hopes to play for several more years and is still eager to win an NBA Championship.

Paul’s 2022-23 season came to a disappointing end, as he missed the Suns’ final four games of their Round 2 series against the Denver Nuggets with a groin injury.

The future Hall of Famer averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists in 59 regular season games for the Suns last season.

A 12-time NBA All-Star, Paul is still searching for the first NBA Championship of his career. He has one Finals appearance with the Suns during the 2020-21 playoffs, which Phoenix ended up losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

Paul has appeared in the NBA post-season for the past 13 consecutive seasons with five different teams.

Paul signed a four-year, $120 million with the Suns prior to the 2021-22 season. The Suns will still owe Paul $15.8 million of guaranteed money next season, which will also count against the team’s cap. If the Suns had not released Paul by June 28, his full $30 million salary for the 2023-24 season would have become fully guaranteed.
