While the pitching wins stat certainly doesn’t carry the weight or relevancy of the past, it’s still a cool thing to see who won the league in the category.

By now, we know that a pitcher’s skills are not, and should not be, measured in wins because, basically, winning a game doesn’t necessarily mean he pitched well.

However, the stat is still part of the MLB pitching Triple Crown, and is still highly regarded by old-school fans.

Having said all that, we don’t have a single leader in wins so far in 2022: we have three!

After taking Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves breakout star Kyle Wright tied for the MLB lead with 16 wins.

However, Los Angeles Dodgers surprising star Tony Gonsolin has the same number.

Three-Way Tie For The Wins Lead

To make things more entertaining, Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander tossed six scoreless and hitless innings against the Minnesota Twins, in which he struck out 10 foes.

He, too, reached 16 victories on the mound this season.

So we have a three-way tie for most wins in baseball between three legitimate aces.

Gonsolin, with a 2.10 ERA, would be a Cy Young candidate if it weren’t for the fact he has significantly fewer innings (128.1) than other pitchers with a similar performance.

Wright’s ERA is at 2.99: good, but not elite.

Verlander, on the other hand, has a sparkling 1.87 ERA in 149 innings with the Astros and has a good chance of winning his third MLB Cy Young.

Can he pull off the feat at 39 years old?

He has a few strong foes, but he certainly has performed like the best pitcher in the American League for much of the season.
