The Sacramento Kings are currently locked into the play-in-tournament.

Malik Monk has been on a tear since he joined the team.

Monk is finally living up to the expectations that came with him as a lottery pick, and he’s currently the odds-on favorite to be named 2023-24 NBA Sixth Man of the Year (via NBA Central).

Standing at -220 odds, he’s followed by Minnesota Timberwolves’ Naz Reid, Bogdan Bogdanovic of the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers guard Norman Powell, and Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks.

However, he’s almost a lock to take the award home at this point.

That’s not much of a surprise, as he averaged 15.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and a whopping 5.1 assists per game in 26 minutes a night.

He’s currently sidelined with an MCL sprain, but he’s confident about getting back in time for the playoffs if the Kings get past the Play-In Tournament.

Monk is about to become a free agent, but he’s firmly expected to be back with Mike Brown’s team next season and for years to come.

He’s found himself a home in Sacramento.

He struggled earlier in his career in Charlotte, even being suspended by the league for violating the drug policy.

Still, the talent was clearly always there, and sometimes, all a player needs is a wake-up call and a change of scenery to get the best out of them.

Now, the same league that punished him is about to reward him.
