Insider Reveals Why Saquon Barkley Left The Giants

In recent seasons, the New York Giants have had an anemic offense, but they have had one of the NFL’s best running backs in Saquon Barkley.

However, Barkley is on his way out, as he agreed to join the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles on a three-year contract that will be worth up to $46.75 million.

Insider Jordan Schultz said that Barkley made this decision not just because of the Eagles’ personnel, but also because of something that happened on the Giants’ end.

“Saquon Barkley did not get an offer from the New York Giants. That told him everything he needed to know,” Schultz said.

Last offseason, New York gave struggling quarterback Daniel Jones a lucrative contract extension, but they only gave Barkley their non-exclusive franchise tag, and Schultz feels that lack of a contract offer was “insulting” to Barkley.

In six NFL seasons, Barkley has made the Pro Bowl twice, and although he has had some injuries, he has gone over the 1,000-yard mark three times.

He would’ve done so a fourth time in 2023 had he not missed three games, but he did post 962 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

He is also something of a dual-threat back, as evidenced by his 288 catches, 2,100 receiving yards, and 12 receiving touchdowns in his pro career.

Schultz said that Barkley was intrigued by joining an Eagles team that has a strong offensive line and boasts quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is a big threat to move the chains with his legs.

In addition, even though Barkley was born in the Bronx, he spent most of his childhood in the Lehigh Valley section of Pennsylvania, which is just minutes north of Philly.

By signing him, the Eagles have secured a significant upgrade after falling apart at the seams late in the 2023 campaign.
