Elias Lindholm thanks Flames fans after trade to Canucks

Less than 24 hours after being traded to the Vancouver Canucks by the Calgary Flames, Elias Lindholm thanked Flames fans and the city on social media on Thursday.

“Thank you Calgary and thank you C of red for these 5 and a half years,” Lindholm wrote on Instagram.

“It’s been truly amazing to represent this organization and to play in front of you all. You guys have been nothing but incredible to me and my family. We’re so grateful for our time in Calgary, and it will always have a special place in our hearts. All the best, it’s been an honour.”

Lindholm, one of the Flames’ alternate captains and a pending unrestricted free agent, was dealt to the Western Conference-leading Canucks on Wednesday for forward Andrei Kuzmenko, prospects Hunter Brzustewicz and Joni Jurmo and a first-round and conditional fourth-round pick at the 2024 NHL Draft.

Picked fifth overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2013 draft, Lindholm was acquired by Calgary in a blockbuster, multi-player trade in the summer of 2018.

The Swedish-born Lindholm was picked to represent the Flames in this weekend’s NHL All-Star Game in Toronto.
