Flames’ Tanev ruled out for Tuesday’s game vs. Vegas after rough hit

Calgary Flames defenceman Chris Tanev is out for Tuesday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights, Sportsnet’s Eric Francis reported Tuesday.

Tanev, 34, had to depart Monday’s 6-5 loss to the Avalanche in the first period after taking a hard hit from Ross Colton in the opening minute of the game. No penalty was called on the play, though Tanev’s teammates responded by going after Colton.

Tanev immediately got up after the hit and made his way to the Calgary bench before going to the dressing room.

The veteran defenceman has been the subject of various trade rumours amidst the Flames’ 11-14-3 seson, which has them in fifth place in the Pacific Division and outside the playoff picture. The six-foot-two, 193-pound Tanev is a much coveted right-shooting, shot-blocking rearguard who is in the final year of a deal that pays him $4.5 million per season.
