Red Wings lose goalie for second-straight game after Husso limps off ice

James Reimer is suddenly the only healthy goaltender on the Detroit Red Wings roster.

Starter Ville Husso was forced to leave Monday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks after stretching to make a save late in the first period. Husso needed help getting off the ice and down the tunnel to the locker room and Reimer entered the game in relief.

The Red Wings announced early in the second period that Husso would not return due to a lower-body injury.

Husso’s injury comes one game after Alex Lyon was forced to leave Saturday’s loss to the Flyers with an upper-body injury. On Monday, head coach Derek Lalonde said that Lyon would at a minimum miss Monday’s game against the Duck and Wednesday’s game against the Jets.

The Red Wings have been carrying three goalies on the NHL roster all season to avoid the risk of losing one on waivers. Now, with Reimer the only healthy goaltender, the team will likely need to summon either Michael Hutchinson or top prospect Sebastian Cossa from AHL Grand Rapids to serve as back up until either Lyon or Husso can return.
