Warriors Announce An Update On Draymond Green’s Injury

The Golden State Warriors are one of four teams that will get the 2023-24 NBA regular season underway on Tuesday, with the storied franchise set to host Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

One of the biggest questions for the Warriors heading into the season opener has been the status of veteran forward Draymond Green, who is currently trying to get back from an ankle injury that cost him all of the preseason.

On Sunday, a video surfaced of Green going through a workout at the team’s practice facility and seemed to be moving better than expected, which obviously bodes well for him getting back to work on Tuesday.

However, the team sent out the following press release through its public relations account on Twitter on Sunday, which is a little vague regarding whether he’ll be good to go to take on the Suns next week.

“He has been cleared to begin practicing with the team (5-on-5) and his return to game action will be based on his continued progress as he works his way into game-like condition,” the release said.

It seems as though the Warriors brass wants to see how Green’s body reacts to practicing over the next few days before thrusting him into the fire in the season opener.

A cautious approach might be best for the Warriors, with the four-time NBA champion no longer considered a young player in the NBA, as he’ll turn 34 in March.

There’s no need to rush a veteran player back into action against a formidable opponent, especially on a team like the Warriors, who can likely shoulder the load for the time being.

The worst-case scenario would be rushing Green back too soon and having him miss considerable time rather than patiently waiting for the right time to bring him along.
