Lions QB Vernon Adams Jr. suffers knee injury against Roughriders

Vernon Adams Jr. is the latest CFL quarterback to go down with an injury, as the B.C. Lions starter was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a knee injury.

Adams Jr. suffered the injury in the first quarter as he was rolled over while being sacked by the Roughriders. He was holding his left knee after getting tackled and helped off the field.

The Lions turned to backup Dane Evans after Adams Jr. was injured and would score a touchdown on his first drive on a 27-yard catch by Alexander Hollins.

Going into Week 7, Adams Jr. was second in the CFL with 1,540 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, and first in completion percentage (71.5 per cent). Going into the game the Lions were second in the league with a 4-1 record.

In Week 6, Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris suffered a tibial plateau fracture of his right knee that required surgery. Mason Fine was making his third career start in place of Harris against the Lions.

Ottawa Redblacks starter Jeremiah Masoli was ruled out for the season with a ruptured left Achilles tendon he suffered against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 5.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats turned to third-string quarterback Taylor Powell against the Toronto Argonauts after both Bo Levi Mitchell and Matthew Schiltz suffered injuries.
