Insider Reveals How Broncos Kept Their QB Preference A Secret

The Denver Broncos always wanted to get Bo Nix, or so they claim.

For weeks, reports stated that they were desperately trying to trade up to get J.J. McCarthy.

Nonetheless, it now seems like they were leaking fake intel, so no one tried to steal Nix away from them.

Now, a report by Zac Stevens of DNVR.com claims that, in order to prevent their actual plans from leaking, they didn’t sort their draft board by preference.

Apparently, the players were arranged randomly, with only GM George Paton, Sean Payton, Greg Penner, and a small group of people knowing their actual preference.

Of course, there weren’t that many teams actively recruiting Nix, either.

The Las Vegas Raiders were also in the mix for a quarterback, and they could’ve tried to leapfrog them to get him, but it doesn’t seem like they were so high on him to begin with.

Nix has come with mixed reviews throughout the course of his collegiate career.

He’s one of the most NFL-ready prospects out there because of his experience, but some believe he’s also close to being a finished product and doesn’t have that much upside.

Also, he didn’t find that much success in college, although he did show glimpses of great athleticism.

The Broncos haven’t had a legitimate star at the position since Peyton Manning retired, and not even trading for Russell Wilson could put an end to their pursuit for a new signal-caller.

Now, Nix will look to prove they were right to believe in him all along.
