Report: Clippers GM Michael Winger to take over full leadership of Wizards, Mystics

Los Angeles Clippers general manager Michael Winger has reportedly agreed to become the new president of Monumental Basketball, giving him full leadership of both the Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday.

Winger has been with the Clippers since 2017, working closely with president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank and owner Steve Balmer.

Wojnarowski reported that the 43-year-old had become the top target of Monumental owner Ted Leonsis over recent weeks.

Winger will take over leadership of a Wizards team that finished 2022-23 with a 35-47 record and has missed the playoffs in four of the past five seasons.

He will also oversee the WNBA Mystics and the Wizards’ G-League affiliate the Capital City Go-Go.
