Hurricanes turn to goaltender Antti Raanta for Game 2 against Panthers

The Carolina Hurricanes are going with Antti Raanta as their starting goaltender for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Florida Panthers.

Frederik Andersen allowed three goals on 60 shots against while playing 139:43 in a 3-2 loss in Game 1 which needed four overtime periods. Sergei Bobrovsky was confirmed as the Panthers’ starter by head coach Paul Maurice.

“He didn’t play the other night, so just getting him some action,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said Saturday when Raanta took part in the morning skate. “I think I’ll just leave it as suspenseful for the lineup tonight. Everybody is available, though, which is good.”

Raanta started the first five games of Carolina’s first-round series against the New York Islanders as Andersen dealt with an illness and an injury. The 34-year-old has a 3-2 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in the playoffs.

Andersen is 5-1 with a 1.65 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage in seven playoff games.
