After blowing a 10-point halftime lead and narrowly losing in the Super Bowl to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles got off to a bad start this offseason.

They lost Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders and standout defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, and as a result, they looked somewhat diminished.

But the Eagles did very well during the 2023 NFL Draft, and one reason why was a trade with the Detroit Lions that brought them running back D’Andre Swift.

Swift has decided to wear jersey No. 0 for his new team this coming season.

Swift is projected to be the starter in Week 1 ahead of Rashaad Penny, whom the team signed back in March.

The Eagles ranked fifth in rushing yards and first in rushing touchdowns in 2022 thanks to Sanders and the dual-threat talent of quarterback Jalen Hurts, and it will be partly up to Swift to keep those numbers high.

Swift was a second-round draft choice by the Detroit Lions in the 2020 draft, and in three pro seasons, he has totaled 1,680 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, while also showing some dual-threat skills of his own with 1,198 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

Last year, he was pretty efficient on the ground by averaging a robust 5.5 yards per carry.

Because the Eagles have depth in their running back room, not to mention Hurts, Swift won’t have to be as good as Sanders was last season when he posted 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground, but they’re still hoping for a big year from him.
