All You Need To Know About Choosing The Best Running Shoes For Men

Updated: May 4, 2023 2:41 pm

Everyone will readily agree that running is a popular form of working out that offers numerous physical – and mental – advantages. Many of us have gotten into the habit of running, be it a 30-minute exercise or a 5K marathon. But we all want to get the most out of our running routine, so it’s crucial to invest in a brilliant pair of running shoes. With so many options out there, it can be hard to choose – and it can be downright challenging to select the best running shoes for our needs and preferences. But what do you need to know about choosing the right running shoes, especially for men? Let’s find out.

• Comfort is key

One of the most crucial factors to consider when you are choosing the best running shoes is comfort. As we already know, when your shoes don’t fit well, this can lead to blisters, discomfort, and even injuries! Therefore, when trying on running shoes, make sure they provide adequate support and cushioning, fit well, and don’t rub or pinch on the soles or anywhere else. Also, it’s important to ensure that there’s enough room in the toe area for your toes to move freely.

• Think about the type of foot you have

You may not be aware of this, but it’s also essential to think about your foot type when selecting running shoes. Remember that different types of feet need different types of shoes, and there are three main types of feet: neutral, supinated, and overpronated. Neutral feet have normal arches and can wear almost all running shoes. But when your feet are overpronated, they tend to have low arches and roll inward, which requires stability or motion-control shoes. When your feet are supinated, they often have high arches and tend to roll outward; it’s best to buy cushioned shoes for supinated feet.

• Cushioning and support

The amount of cushioning and support is another critical factor to consider when selecting men’s running shoes. The ideal amount of support and cushioning can protect your legs and feet from impact, and the extra cushioning can reduce the risk of injury. However, the cushioning and support varies from person to person – some runners prefer a minimalist shoe with little cushioning, while others prefer a highly cushioned shoe. Meanwhile, some runners require more support than others, depending on the type of foot they have and their running style.

• Running surface
Your overall running surface can also influence and impact the type of shoe you require. For example, if you primarily run on sidewalks or roads, look for a shoe with good shock absorption and durability. On the other hand, if you run on hiking paths and trails, you will need a shoe with more support and traction. There are also shoes designed especially for indoor running (such as on a treadmill), which may have different features compared to outdoor shoes.

• Consider your goals

Another crucial factor to consider is your running goals. Are you running just to keep fit, training for a marathon, or running to lose weight? For instance, racing shoes are lightweight, minimalistic, and designed for speed. Select a shoe that matches your goals – and the running you are planning.
