Daniel Jones’ contract with the New York Giants will be a talking point for years now.

Just like it’s happened with Kirk Cousins and other overpaid players, he’ll be held to a very different standard from now on.

Of course, he’s been used to that for the most part of his career, as he was taken with the sixth-overall pick in a move that most analysts and even fans deemed a big stretch.

Notably, however, Danny Dimes won’t even have to silence the talking heads, fans, and trolls.

He’ll also have to prove his worth to some of his colleagues.

Recently, Chicago Bears Safety Jaquan Brisker took an uncalled-for shot at him, wondering how a former MVP like Lamar Jackson couldn’t get paid but a “trash” player like Jones could.

Of course, those comments rubbed plenty of people the wrong way, with countless Giants fans taking to Twitter to defend their QB and take shots at Brisker.

Brisker should’ve known better than to stir the pot and rip a QB who actually beat them last season.

But he did have a slightly valid point in terms of Lamar not getting the deal he wanted and a mid-tier QB like Jones fetching $40 million a year.

Jones is coming off a solid season, and there are reasons to be optimistic about the future under Brian Daboll.

Then again, we’re talking about $40 million a year, which is just $5 million shy of what two-time MVP and Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes is making right now.

Just let that sink in.
