Lamar Jackson’s Situation Is Confusing Everyone

Right now, arguably the hottest quarterback on the market in the NFL is Lamar Jackson, who received the Baltimore Ravens‘ non-exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday.

However, that isn’t saying much.

As of now, there is little to no interest in him, even though he is free to negotiate a contract with any team he wants.

Many are comparing this situation to the one Deshaun Watson was in a year ago when there was plenty of interest in him, which led to him signing a humongous contract with the Cleveland Browns after the Houston Texans traded him there.

Some do not understand why no one seems interested in Jackson.

Jackson reportedly wants a contract like the one Watson eventually got, which will pay him $230 million over five years and is fully guaranteed.

While Jackson is a very good dual-threat QB who has an MVP award and two Pro Bowl selections under his belt, there are some concerns about him.

One is his productivity while passing the football.

The book on Jackson has always seemingly been to force him to throw the ball as often as possible, and while he did well in that department during his MVP campaign in 2019, his numbers have fallen off ever since.

In 2022, he registered 2,242 passing yards and 17 passing touchdowns on an anemic 62.3 percent completion rate.

Then there is his availability, as he has missed five games in each of the last two seasons due to injury.

Since there are a number of teams that need a significant upgrade under center, perhaps he will end up getting some offers, but it remains to be seen if any team offers him the lucrative deal he has been seeking for many months now.
