Running back Gus Edwards has been a steady contributor for the Baltimore Ravens for three seasons.

He never had rushing totals of less than 700 yards and averaged 5.2 yards per carry.

He has also scored ten touchdowns, six of which were from 2020.

Unfortunately, what started as a promising season ended in disaster as Edwards suffered a torn ACL in one of their practices during the 2021 preseason.

He went on injured reserve the following day and ended up missing the entire 2021 season.

Given that the recovery period for ACL injuries could take a while, there is no definite timetable for his return.

Therefore, the Ravens did the expected move regarding Edwards, as ESPN’s Jamison Hensley shared.

Hensley tweeted, “John Harbaugh on Gus Edwards being placed on reserve/PUP: ‘That’s what we expected.’ Harbaugh said he expects Edwards to play at some point this season.”

With Edwards on the Physically Unable To Perform list, he is expected to miss at least four games.

Therefore, he could come back as early as Week 5 when the Ravens face the division rival Cincinnati Bengals on October 9.

Other Options At Running Back

With Edwards still sidelined, the Ravens hoped for J.K. Dobbins‘ return.

However, it’s still uncertain if he will be ready for Week 1 of the 2022 season.

Dobbins suffered a torn ACL in their preseason game last year against the Washington Football Team.

Still, he is showing positive signs from his recovery period and could also suit up for Baltimore this season.

With both Edwards and Dobbins sidelined, veteran running back Mike Davis could be the team’s primary option at running back.

They will also have to rely on Justice Hill, Tyler Badie, and Nate McCrary.
