The Yankees Made A Handful Of Moves Wednesday Afternoon

General manager Brian Cashman talks on the phone prior to a Grapefruit League spring training game between the Washington Nationals and the New York Yankees at FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches on March 12, 2020 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The New York Yankees have lost 11 of their last 14 games and eight of their last ten.

They have been comically bad in August, and haven’t played well at all since the start of the second half.

They are no longer the best team in New York or in the American League: they lost those privileges to the New York Mets and the Houston Astros, respectively.

That’s why they needed to do something to provide a spark.

They brought some trade deadline reinforcements, but today, they announced three additions that should go a long way in improving their hapless and decimated roster.

“Florial, Cabrera and Marinaccio added to the roster from AAA. Holmes (back) goes on the IL. Andujar and Locastro return to AAA,” YES Network’s Jack Curry tweeted.

Cabrera Is Looking To Make An Impression

Oswaldo Cabrera plays shortstop, second base, and third base: it’s not hard to argue that, with a .340 batting average and eight home runs since July 4, he has much more offensive upside than Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and perhaps even Gleyber Torres at this point.

He has power from both sides of the plate, but has also improved his plate discipline this season.

If he can adjust from Triple-A pitching to the MLB, Cabrera could be a future regular.

Right now, he is probably looking to make his presence felt.

Estevan Florial has long been a top prospect in the Yankees system, but injuries and contact issues have set him back.

He is trying to get advantage of his new shot.

Ron Marinaccio has been extremely solid in middle relief, with a 2.03 ERA in 26.2 innings and lots of strikeouts.

The Yankees hope all three can contribute and help the team shake off its latest collective slump.
