Friday is another “tournament night” across the NBA as teams vie for optimal positioning in this season’s Emirates NBA Cup.

While there are currently six teams that have a 2-0 record in group play, there is one clear favorite to win this year’s NBA Cup, and it is one that will surprise some people.

The New York Knicks, who have a modest 9-6 overall record, are strong betting favorites to be the last team standing in this season’s in-season tournament, per ClutchSports Betting.

The Knicks did very well throughout the second half of last season after trading for 3-and-D wing OG Anunoby, even though they lost forward Julius Randle and center Mitchell Robinson to serious injuries.

Their run to the brink of the Eastern Conference Finals, as well as their offseason trades for two-way wing Mikal Bridges and star center Karl-Anthony Towns, led many to tab them as legitimate championship contenders.

New York got off to a slow start this season due to some poor defense, but they have now won four games in a row, and they do have one of the most productive offenses in basketball.

Their two remaining group play games will take place on Nov. 29 versus the Charlotte Hornets and on Dec. 3 against the Orlando Magic.

The Knicks play in East Group A, and they appear to be by far the best team in that group, at least on paper.

The defending NBA champion Boston Celtics are just 1-1 in group play, as are the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers, which seems to have opened up a window for Jalen Brunson and crew.
