The New York Giants finally ended the Daniel Jones era this week after announcing early in the week that he was being benched for Tommy DeVito.
However, on Friday morning, they took it one step further and officially released the veteran quarterback per his request.
The release created $20 million in dead cap space and abruptly ended a tumultuous six-year pact with more lows than highs, though one analyst pointed out a surprising fact about him that is hard to believe.
On Friday morning’s episode of “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd asked his guest, Jason McIntyre, “Who’s the only NFC quarterback to beat Lamar Jackson? It’s Daniel Jones.”

Jackson has been suspiciously dominant against the NFC and holds a 23-1 record against the conference as a starter, with that one loss coming against Daniel Jones and the Giants in October of 2022.
Jones threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions this year while adding 265 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground, and it wasn’t enough to convince the front office that he is worthy of more time as the starter.
New York will now obviously head into the offseason looking for a new quarterback, and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward will be right there at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft if the team opts to go for a rookie.
What’s next for Jones remains to be seen.
He’ll certainly clear waivers due to all the money he is still owed, but his next landing spot is a toss-up.
