In the latest turn of events, Manchester United, eager to sign Matthijs de Ligt, will now face competition from Real Madrid who are looking to hijack the deal.
There have been reports of de Ligt agreeing on personnel terms with Manchester United however both the clubs are yet to decide on the transfer fee.
The Red Devils had initially submitted a bid of £29m for the player however it was rejected by Bayern Munich as it fell short of their asking price which is in the region of £42m.
As talks continue to take place United will be vying to wrap up the deal however there is a twist in the tail as Real Madrid has entered the race to sign the centre-back (via Football365).
Los Blancos have been looking to plot a move for a centre-back as they aim to strengthen their defensive department. Initially, they had kept a close eye on French centre-back Leny Yoro and they were confident in recruiting him however Manchester United was leading the transfer race for the in-demand centre back hence they were quick to grab his signature.
Madrid’s New Target: Matthijs de Ligt
After losing out on Yoro Madrid is looking to acquire de Ligt and they are willing to offer a transfer fee of £34m for the player.
While the fee being offered is higher than United’s, it still falls short of the Bavarian’s asking price. This sets the stage for an intense battle as both the European giants will look to negotiate hard to win the transfer.
Matthijs de Ligt will be looking forward to sealing a move away from the Allianz Arena as he has fallen the pecking order with both Kim Min-Jae and Eric Dier starting matches ahead of him.
Summer Transfer window
Under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe United has made significant strides in the summer transfer window so far by securing the signatures of two players Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee. They are eager to plot more transfers in their quest to strengthen their squad.
On the other hand, Real Madrid has also had a busy and active transfer window where they have signed three important players- Kylian Mbappe, Joselu, and Endrick.
Los Blancos will look to dominate Europe given the star-studded squad they have which includes the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappe to name a few.
