The San Francisco 49ers already have their quarterback for the future.

Brock Purdy has earned his stripes in the Bay area already, but they still need to have a plan B.

With Sam Darnold joining the Minnesota Vikings, the Niners have Joshua Dobbs and Brandon Allen as Purdy’s backup.

Even so, you can never have too much depth at the most crucial position in the game, and the Niners know that firsthand.

With that in mind, they’re going to work out veteran QB Kellen Mond at their ‘local’ Pro Day, according to a report by Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Mond was a third-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2021 by the Minnesota Vikings, making one appearance as a rookie, completing two of three passes for five yards.

Those were the only three offensive snaps of his career in the regular season.

Mond joined the Cleveland Browns after being claimed off waivers, and he was a member of the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad last season.

He’ll be joined by several prospects hoping to get a chance to turn pro.

Of course, even if signed, Mond will have a tough time taking the field.

CEO Jed York recently stated that they’re ready to give Brock Purdy as much money as it takes to get a contract extension done sooner rather than later, and he’s earned every single penny of his impending contract extension after the season he had in 2023.
