The San Francisco 49ers were one of the best teams in the NFL last year.
While their offense was stronger than average last season, their defense was strong, as it has been for the past several years.
Even though their defense helped propel them into the Super Bowl, the 49ers, like other NFL teams, are always looking to grow.
They are reportedly in the market to add at least one safety to their roster, as the 49ers and NFL News page highlighted on Twitter.
This page specifically pointed to Ashtyn Davis, a safety who recently suited up for the New York Jets.
The #49ers have been in contact with former #Jets Safety Ashtyn Davis, per source.

Even if Davis wouldn’t be a Day 1 starter for the 49ers, he could be a great depth piece to add to this roster.
The 49ers still believe their championship window is wide open, as they are making the necessary moves to compete in the NFC.
The NFC was less crowded at the top than the AFC last season, but the 49ers want to keep their foot on the gas moving forward.
It is tough to be the best team in the conference, but with these additions in mind, it’s difficult to see many other teams keeping up with them, especially on defense.
If he plays his cards right and signs with this team, Davis could give himself a great chance to play for an organization with a great chance to make a deep playoff run.
