Jets goalie prospect Oskari Salminen scores goal in ECHL

A Winnipeg Jets goalie prospect scored a goal in the ECHL Friday night, helping his team clinch a playoff spot in the process.

Oskari Salminen fired home the goal from his own crease to give the Norfolk Admirals a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Gladiators. After the puck crossed the line, Salminen celebrated by sliding toward centre ice on one knee with his stick in the air before celebrating with his teammates at the bench.

Salminen also made 25 saves in the win which officially booked the Admirals’ ticket to the Kelly Cup playoffs.

The 24-year-old Salminen signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2022-23 season after beginning his career in his native Finland.

Salminen has split this season between the Admirals and the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. He entered play with an .881 save percentage over 22 starts between the two teams.
