Capitol Rioters Haven’t Been Able to Delay Accountability

“Donald Trump may never face a federal trial in connection to the attack on the U.S. Capitol, but hundreds of his supporters have already seen life-altering consequences for their actions in support of his election lies on Jan. 6,” NBC News reports.

“The former president has done everything he can to delay his criminal trial in Washington, D.C., with his lawyers arguing that he’s immune from prosecution and that it would amount to election interference to make him leave the 2024 campaign trail to mount his own defense.”

“But the 950 others who have been convicted for crimes related to Jan. 6 in the three years since the attack on the U.S. Capitol haven’t been able to make those arguments to delay their cases. About 500 defendants have been sentenced to periods of incarceration from just a few days behind bars to 22 years in federal prison.”
