Russell Wilson Gets Honest About His Time With Broncos

The Russell Wilson experiment is officially over for the Denver Broncos, and it was a painful one for them and their fans.

The Broncos won a combined 13 games over the last two seasons with the future Hall of Famer at quarterback, and it appeared there was some friction between him and new head coach Sean Payton in 2023.

But Wilson is now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he reflected on his brief time in Denver while trying to put a positive spin on it, per James Palmer.

“I think it’s all about how you look at it. In life, a lot of times when things don’t go your way, you can look at it as disappointing [or] you can look at it as growth moments,” Wilson said.

After Denver traded for Wilson two years ago, some thought they had a real shot at getting to the Super Bowl, but in the end, they simply didn’t have enough weapons around him on either side of the football.

As a result, Denver’s rebuilding process, which started when Peyton Manning retired right after winning Super Bowl 50, continues with seemingly no end in sight.

Wilson played poorly in 2022, and although his numbers were somewhat misleading in 2023, they did appear to rebound to a level that at least resembled where he was consistently at during 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

In Pittsburgh, he will have a reliable wide receiver threat in George Pickens, as well as multiple studs on defense, including new linebacker Patrick Queen.

Even though he is 35 years of age, Wilson may still have a couple of good years left in him, and if he does, perhaps Pittsburgh will win their first playoff game since 2016 when they reached the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.
