The San Francisco 49ers have made a few additions already in free agency, including bringing in veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd.

But their core is likely going to remain the same as it was a few months ago when they made it to the Super Bowl, only to lose in overtime there to the Kansas City Chiefs.

One key member of that core is wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and he will be switching from his familiar No. 19 to No. 1 for the 2024 season, per the 49ers’ official Twitter account.

Samuel may not be the team’s most productive offensive skill player, but he may be its heart and soul on that side of the football.

During the 2023 regular season, he had 60 catches for 892 yards and seven touchdowns while adding five rushing touchdowns, and he was tied for the most receiving touchdowns on the team along with Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey.

But Samuel also supplies a good amount of blocking, as well as attitude for San Francisco.

San Francisco’s offense is led by quarterback Brock Purdy, who seemed to solidify his standing as one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in 2023, even if plenty of people still don’t want to admit it yet.

As usual, next season, if the team doesn’t win the Super Bowl championship, it will be considered a failure, but those are the stakes when a team has one of the best rosters in the league.
