The disaster of the 2023 NFL season is finally behind the New York Jets and the franchise can turn toward 2024.

The Jets went into last season with high hopes after they swung a blockbuster trade to bring in Aaron Rodgers as their new starting quarterback.

However, Rodgers’ New York debut lasted only a few snaps as he tore his Achilles on the team’s opening drive and did not appear the rest of the year.

Although Rodgers attempted a ludicrous return, the Jets smartly decided to keep him off the field to preserve him for this upcoming season.

Even with a healthy Rodgers presumably ready to go, the team needs to give him more protection up front.

Tyron Smith, who is expected to leave the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, is one potential option for New York, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

“Intriguing option for the Jets. Obviously, the injury factor is a concern, but Dallas had a practice plan that allowed him to start 13 games — most since 2019. Still one of the best … when healthy,” Cimini wrote.

Smith’s age and injury history are concerning, but the Jets could surely use someone like him to protect Rodgers’ blindside in 2024.

While Zach Wilson caught a lot of flak for his disappointing play, the offensive line was just as bad as they routinely gave up pressures and sacks.

Aside from potentially adding someone like Smith in free agency, New York owns the No. 10 overall pick in the draft and could take an offensive lineman.

The class is littered with offensive line prospects, so the Jets should seriously consider taking one when their name is on the clock.
