It seems clear that this season’s race for the NBA Rookie of the Year will come down to Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren.

Wembanyama is a player unlike any other and is doing incredible things while playing for the lackluster San Antonio Spurs.

Meanwhile, Holmgren has quickly become a pivotal part of the surging Oklahoma City Thunder.

Praising his “grit” and “real skill” on Wednesday’s “Undisputed,” Skip Bayless said he thinks Holmgren should win Rookie of the Year.

He praised Wembanyama in many ways but said Holmgren is “having real impact” for his Thunder and is helping them remain true playoff contenders.

In some ways, it’s easy to compare Wembanyama and Holmgren because they are similar players with tall bodies and thin frames.

Because of that, they approach the game in many of the same ways.

But you simply cannot compare their teams, because the Thunder have an incredibly strong presence in the Western Conference, and the Spurs definitely do not.

When Rookie of the Year voting begins, will people consider the standing of both teams while making their selections?

If so, Bayless won’t be the only one voting for Holmgren.

There are many analysts predicting that Wembanyama will walk away with the prize but the fact that Holmgren is making it close is a surprising and admirable accomplishment.

When the season began, nearly everyone assumed that Wembanyama would have no competition and would easily sail to Rookie of the Year.

But Holmgren is reminding people why he excited the Thunder fanbase when he was selected more than a year ago.

No matter who wins Rookie of the Year, both of these players have immense potential and could be huge parts of the league for many seasons.
