The Super Bowl ended epically last night, as the game went to overtime for the second time in history.
This ended up being a gritty battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, and the overtime period reflected that.
While overtime was a fantastic experience for fans, it wasn’t welcomed by the 49ers players, as a recent report indicates.
According to reporter Lindsay Jones via Ari Meirov, several 49ers players were unaware of the new overtime rules, which might have played into their attitude during bonus time.
Multiple #49ers players said after the game that they were not aware of the new overtime rules. The #Chiefs, on the other hand, have been planning for this scenario, and DT Chris Jones said they were going to go for two had San Francisco scored a TD, per @bylindsayhjones.… https://t.co/3p7XzVx6rJ pic.twitter.com/DHe3pn1TwQ

The same could not be said of the Chiefs, who were apparently ready and fully prepared should the game go into overtime.
They were not only ready but according to Chris Jones via Meirov’s report, they planned to go for two, hopefully winning the game and not leaving things up to chance.
In overtime, it was made evident that both defenses were exhausted after a long game.
While they had both played well to that point, it was only a matter of time before things broke down, and the offense started to win it’s matchups.
Thankfully for the Chiefs, the 49ers were only able to put up a field goal, which paved the way for Mecole Hardman’s game-winning touchdown reception.
If the 49ers go into overtime in the future, they will hopefully be more prepared for the new rules, and not caught off-guard like they were this season.
Kyle Shanahan is said to be one of the best coaches in the NFL, but for whatever reason, his team was not fully ready for the new rules that were thrown their way.
