The Seattle Seahawks will have a new head coach for the first time in 14 seasons.
After letting Pete Carroll go this offseason, the Seahawks interviewed a number of head coaching candidates before landing on someone who coached one of the best defenses in the NFL.
Seattle hired Baltimore Ravens head coach Mike Macdonald, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, just days after the conclusion of the AFC title game.

Macdonald spent the past two seasons as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator after time with the Michigan Wolverines and with the Ravens in a variety of defensive assistant roles.
He’s coached a defense this year, though, that limited some of the best quarterbacks and best teams on the way to the Ravens’ ascent as the AFC’s No. 1 seed.
The Ravens lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game but held Patrick Mahomes to just 17 points a week after holding C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans to just three offensive points in the wild card round.
Macdonald will inherit a team that was on the cusp of the playoffs before a few key losses at the end of the season.
The Seahawks have a solid team overall but have a few big question marks – especially on defense.
They also play in the ultra-competitive NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams and Super Bowl-bound San Francisco 49ers.
Macdonald will be tasked with filling in the gaps left behind by Carroll, who will remain with the team in a front office advisory role.
