Devils’ Hughes won’t skate at All-Star weekend due to injury, replaced by Bratt

New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes will not participate on ice at NHL All-Star weekend in Toronto due to a lingering upper-body injury, the league announced Tuesday.

He will be replaced by Devils teammate Jesper Bratt.

Hughes, 22, is still expected to be in Toronto and will still co-captain Team Hughes with his brother Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.

Jack Hughes was also scheduled to participate in the weekend’s new skills competition with $1 million on the line, but he will now be replaced by New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal.

Hughes was injured on Jan. 5 when he took an awkward fall into the boards in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Despite two separate injuries this season, Hughes has still recorded 15 goals and 30 assists in 32 games.

The All-Star festivities in Toronto begin on Thursday and you can watch every moment on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
