Vladi Miguel Guerrero signs international contract with New York Mets

The MLB has been put on notice: Vladimir Guerrero has another son who just signed with the New York Mets.

Vladi Miguel Guerrero, the 17-year-old son of the Hall of Famer, signed a contract during the international signing period on Monday that includes a $117,000 signing bonus and a $60,000 scholarship bonus, according to Z101 Digital reporter Héctor Gómez. He is one of 20 players the Mets plan on signing Monday, according to Metsmerized’s Mike Mayer.

Guerrero is not viewed as highly of a prospect as his older brother, Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. Still, scouts who have spoken with a variety of reporters, including the New York Post’s Joel Sherman and The Athletic’s Will Sammon, praise the Dominican Republic player’s power.

Sammon wrote:

Scouts who have seen Vladi play describe him as a physical left-handed hitter with the potential to hit in the middle of a lineup. They checked off pitch recognition and bat speed as “plus skills,” adding that he possesses raw power that shows up in games, especially with pitches on the inner half of the plate.

Meanwhile, a National League international scout told Sherman that Guerrero is “a very interesting prospect, bat first as there’s plus-impact potential — above-average bat speed with potential plus-raw power as well.”

“More of a power over offensive profile, not as pure a hitter as Vlad Jr. but comes with the same concerns as he’ll have to watch his body and is a fair athlete as well. There’s thunder in those from the left-hand side.”

Even if he’s not the same pure hitter, another powerful Guerrero is not something that MLB pitchers want to hear is coming.

Vladi is not the only Guerrero son in the minors. Outfielder Pablo Guerrero signed a deal with the Texas Rangers in January 2023.
