Canadiens’ Heineman slotting back into lineup for game vs. Rangers

Forward Emil Heineman will be in the lineup Saturday night when the Montreal Canadiens take on the New York Rangers, head coach Martin St. Louis announced at the morning skate.

Heineman was recalled from the American Hockey League on Friday. The 22-year-old has not appeared with the Canadiens since Dec. 22 after making his season debut on Dec. 21.

Heineman did not record a point in either of his two games with Montreal, but over 10 games this season with the Laval Rocket, he has six points (two goals and four assists).

Meanwhile, St. Louis also announced that blue liner Jonathan Kovacevic will not play Saturday as the team returns to a 12 forward, six defenceman roster against the Rangers. Across 36 games this season, the 26-year-old has recorded seven points (five goals and two assists).

The Canadiens (16-17-5) take on the Rangers (26-10-1) in Montreal for Hockey Night in Canada, with action starting at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
