Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis knew he needed to change up the organization in order to get back to winning which is why he fired Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels.

McDaniels’ firing was inevitable after he led the Raiders to another losing season before his dismissal.

In his place, Las Vegas elevated Antonio Pierce to be their interim head coach and he’s got the team playing like one of the best squads in the league.

Pierce has been able to get the most out of the roster, especially on the defensive end as the Raiders have been a shutdown unit as of late.

Pierce picked up the biggest win of his coaching career in Week 16 when Las Vegas went on the road and defeated the reigning Super Bowl champions and their AFC West rivals the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since Pierce took over the sidelines, Las Vegas has ranked near the top of several defensive metrics via NFL GameDay.

The Raiders rank first in points per game allowed, tied for fifth in sacks, tied for sixth in takeaways, and first in defensive touchdowns since Pierce took over as interim head coach.

Maxx Crosby is the leader of the defense, but young players like Nate Hobbs and Trevon Moehrig-Woodard have shored up the secondary.

Las Vegas was one of the worst defensive units to begin the year, but the players are buying into Pierce and are playing at a high level.

Davis may be casting a wide net for his next head coach, but Pierce is making a strong case that he should just keep the job.
