Left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez has agreed to a four-year, $80-million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports.
The signing is pending a physical.
The Venezuelan used his no-trade clause to block the Detroit Tigers from trading him to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline in 2023. Family reasons were the reason for the move.
The Diamondbacks swept the Dodgers in the division series on route to winning the NL pennant last season. Rodriguez joined a rotation headlined by Cy Young finalist Zac Gallen as well as Brandon Pfaadt and Merrill Kelly.
Rodriguez, 30, was 13-9 with a career-best 3.30 ERA in 26 starts for the Tigers last season.
In 202 career MLB games (196 starts) with the Boston Red Sox and Tigers, Rodriguez is 82-53 with a 4.03 ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles signed Rodriguez as an international free agent in 2010 and traded him to the Red Sox four years later. He made his MLB debut with the Red Sox in 2015.
Rodriguez was part of Boston’s World Series-winning squad in 2018. He signed a five-year, $77 million contract with the Tigers prior to the 2022 season, but it had an opt-out option after the 2023 campaign. He made the decision to opt out in early November.
