Israel-Gaza war news: Israel says Hamas tunnel shaft found at Gaza hospital; hostage found dead

The Israeli raid of the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital continued as the Israel Defense Forces released a photo and video of a rough cavity that it said was an “operational tunnel shaft” inside al-Shifa Hospital. The IDF said the discovery further proved its assertions that Hamas had created an underground facility beneath the medical center, using patients and hospital staff as human shields. The Washington Post verified that the alleged tunnel shaft is located inside al-Shifa Hospital, but The Post could not verify where the opening led or what its purpose might be. The IDF also said it found the body of Yehudit Weiss, one of about 240 hostages believed to have been kidnapped by Hamas, near al-Shifa Hospital. In an interview with CBS on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had “strong indications” that hostages were being held at al-Shifa Hospital, citing it as one reason Israeli troops had raided the complex. “If they were [there], they were taken out,” he added.
