Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl fined $5K for dangerous trip

Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has been fined $5,000 for a dangerous trip on New York Islanders’ Bo Horvat, the department of player safety announced Tuesday.

The amount is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

The incident happened in the second period of Monday’s game as the two were battling for the puck by the boards. Draisaitl crosschecked the back of Horvat’s legs, causing him to fall.

Draisaitl was assessed a two-minute minor penalty on the play.

The Oilers went on to beat the Islanders 4-1 as Draisaitl factored on all of Edmonton’s goals.
