After spending almost five weeks on the shelf with a right teres major strain, Texas Rangers ace Max Scherzer is ready to make his long-awaited return to the mound.

That’s right: Scherzer, who has had a rough year between injuries, a suspension, and a higher-than-usual ERA, will take the ball for the Rangers in Game 3, to be played on Wednesday.

His last game was on September 12, but he was included on the American League Championship Series roster when he threw a simulated game last Friday.

Many fans, of course, can’t wait to see “Mad Max” on the mound for such an important game.

Others, however, are not so confident on him being thrown to the fire after more than a month of inactivity.

It could go either way when it comes to length, but the priority, for the Rangers, should be that Scherzer keeps them in the game.

It doesn’t matter if he pitches two, four, or seven frames: the most important thing is that he doesn’t deliver a disastrous outing that puts the Rangers in a hole.

Texas has two of Jon Gray, Dane Dunning, and Andrew Heaney available, as the one that doesn’t pitch (hypothetically speaking) will take the ball in Game 4.

Scherzer wasn’t his usual self with the New York Mets this year.

His injury issues, large contract, and good-but-not-great performance (4.01 ERA in 107.2 innings) made the Mets trade him to Texas.

There, he improved to a 3.20 ERA pitcher in 45 frames.

He then got hurt, but now, he will get a chance to prove he still has what it takes to dominate an important postseason game.
