Derrick White of the Boston Celtics may be on the verge of his biggest season yet – and his biggest payday too.
He has two years left on his contract with the Celtics but they are already discussing an extension with him and his management team.
Both sides have until October 23 to make something happen but White seems optimistic about his future with the team no matter how negotiations go.
“I love it here. That’ll never change, whether I sign before the season or not,” White told NBC Sports Boston.

If the Celtics and White don’t hash out a deal, they will have to wait until next summer to start up talks again.
White has been with the team for two seasons now and had a very special 2022-23.
He averaged 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
Beyond his point production, White was also a terrific defensive player and was selected as second-team All-Defense.
With the loss of Marcus Smart, White stands to receive even more responsibility in the new season.
That is partly why the Celtics would like to reach a deal now: if they wait until next summer, White’s value – and price – could go up.
The Celtics have had a very busy summer with some major changes.
They said goodbye to Smart, Robert Williams III, and Malcolm Brogdon.
That means that 2023-24 will be a time for the team to reclaim its identity and start a new chapter.
White could be a huge part of that chapter and might become a household name by the time the season is over.
Both White and the Celtics are committed to working together, now they just have to agree upon a contract.
