The Dodgers Haven’t Yet Clinched Thanks To A Technicality

Several outlets and reporters announced that the Los Angeles Dodgers had clinched a playoff berth with Sunday’s 11-2 win against the San Diego Padres.

That appeared to be the case, at least until MLB reporter Alanna Rizzo broke down the situation in a recent tweet.

“Due to a number of scenarios that involve potential three and four-team tiebreaks, the Los Angeles Dodgers have not yet clinched a Postseason berth. The Dodgers can clinch a Postseason berth tonight with a win at Arizona. The Dodgers can clinch the NL West as early as tomorrow,” she reported.

Don’t worry, Dodgers fans: it’s a matter of hours, not days.

In theory, the Dodgers could still miss the playoffs if they lose their remaining 23 games, the Atlanta Braves win the NL East, the San Diego Padres win the NL West, and the Milwaukee Brewers win the Central.

In that case, there could be a four-way tie for three Wild Card spots between the New York Mets, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Dodgers.

All those three teams have a head-to-head advantage over the Dodgers this year.

Realistically, The Dodgers Are Already In

Now, can you really see them losing their remaining 23 games?

With luck, they will lose three.

All kidding aside, LA could confirm their ticket to the postseason with a win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.

They have 96 wins already, and have been on a tier of their own in 2022.

The Dodgers should be viewed as the clear favorites to win the Fall Classic.

They have virtually no weaknesses, and that’s after accounting for several injured stars.

A few organizations could challenge them over a short series, but over a 162-game campaign, the Dodgers have no competitors.
