Lorenzo Insigne’s troubling season for Toronto FC has reportedly reached a boiling point.
The striker was seen getting into a heated exchange with fans during Saturday’s 3-2 loss against FC Cincinnati at BMO Field while sitting in a suite. The Italian striker did not play in the game because of an injury.
In a video shared on social media by Daniel Ayik of Area Sports Network, Insigne is seen flipping off supporters while also swearing. It is not known what caused the heated interaction.
The club has not responded to a request for comment.
Insigne joined TFC on a four-year deal with a reported annual salary of $15 million, which made him among the top paid players in MLS.
The 32-year-old was seen as one of the building blocks, along with fellow countryman Federico Bernardeschi, to help the franchise return to prominence. Unfortunately, the former Napoli star has dealt with a series of injuries, suiting up in just 28 matches since joining Toronto.
This isn’t the only incident involving Insigne this season as the striker reportedly stormed out of training back in August following an argument with interim coach Terry Dunfield.
TFC sits last in the Eastern Conference with a 4-10-17 record, which also has them dead last in the 29-team MLS. Former Canadian men’s soccer team coach John Herdman will officially join the team as their new manager on Sunday.
