Since stepping down as president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, Magic Johnson has been able to sit back and enjoy watching NBA games and saying whatever he wants.

Johnson is still well-regarded around the league, so whenever he says something people will listen.

Like a lot of fans, Johnson was impressed with what the Lakers were able to do this past offseason as they kept most of their young core intact while adding several free agents who can step in and help the team right away.

Coming off a Western Conference Finals appearance, Los Angeles was able to improve their roster and should be a title contender in the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season.

The purple and gold, at least on paper, have a talented and deep enough team to make a real postseason run should they be able to stay healthy.

Assuming everyone is available, Johnson made a bold proclamation that the Lakers would beat the Phoenix Suns in next year’s Western Conference Finals via his Twitter account.

“My bold pick for the West is the Lakers and Phoenix Suns will be playing in the Western Conference Finals and the Lakers will win!” Johnson tweeted.

Johnson sounds very confident in his former team being able to make another Finals appearance, though it’s hard to blame him considering how the team looks.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are expected to come into the regular season fully healthy, while they’ve also got a budding star in Austin Reaves alongside them.

It’s an exciting time to be a Lakers fan as the team is arguably the best it’s been since their last title in 2020.
