Geno Smith’s second act in football has played out well for the Seattle Seahawks.

After his initial struggles as a young quarterback, he has turned from Russell Wilson’s backup to a bona fide leader of the Seahawks offense.

The lessons he’s learned have helped him become a smarter and more efficient quarterback, much to the Seahawks’ delight.

His improvement also allowed the squad to build the team around him by drafting players like wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The veteran play-caller and the rookie wideout shared a moment on the sidelines after a turnover in their Week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Smith shared with Ryan Clark and Jay Cutler during an interview on Inside the NFL, “I want to get Jaxon the football as much as possible. But, you know, it just hadn’t turned out that way so far. And so, I just wanted him to keep his head in the game.”

Smith referred to a pass intended for Smith-Njigba that turned into an interception.

On the sidelines, Smith spoke to his dejected teammate, “Hey, I need you. I need you in the second half. I need you locked in. Alright, look. Whatever happened is on me. It ain’t never on you. You got to get the ball, so I got to find you.”

It was Smith’s first interception in the 2023 NFL season.

However, the Seahawks bounced back from that turnover by completing a 37-27 victory over the Panthers to go 2-1 in the season.

Smith will try to elevate Smith-Njigba and the other Seahawks receivers when they visit the New York Giants in Week 4.
