In his third season in the NFL, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is struggling once again, and the window of opportunity for him to become a Pro Bowl-caliber signal-caller may be starting to close.

The Bears are 0-2, and Fields recently seemed to blame his coaching staff for what he called his “robotic” play, although he later seemed to scale back such criticism.

He was seen on Thursday hugging Chicago offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, apparently in an effort to quell the speculation about the relationship between the two, via NBCS Bears.

Getsy is in his second year as the team’s offensive coordinator, and prior to coming to Chicago, he had never been an offensive coordinator in the NFL, although he had served in that capacity for two different Division II schools in the NCAA.

So far this season, the Bears are 22nd in scoring and 27th in total yards gained, while Fields has a completion rate of 60.6 percent and has thrown three interceptions against two touchdown passes.

During the offseason, they made a big move when they dealt the No. 1 pick in the draft to the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver DJ Moore, who had three straight years with over 1,150 receiving yards from 2019 to 2021.

It was hoped Moore’s presence would help Fields tap into the potential he displayed while at Ohio State, but it hasn’t happened, at least not so far.

Fields’ greatest strength so far in his career has been his ability to move the chains with his legs, and so far this year, he has 62 rushing yards and one touchdown.
