A case can be made that the Los Angeles Lakers have won the NBA offseason because of the moves they’ve made in NBA free agency while also resisting the urge to bring in another superstar like Kyrie Irving.
General manager Rob Pelinka headed into the offseason with a plan to keep the team intact while adding some pieces here and there to address areas of need, and he’s been able to do just that and has turned a lot of heads around the league in the meantime.
The latest move the Lakers brass made has been one that has been brewing for quite some time, with no one knowing whether it would actually come to fruition, as Christian Wood seemed to be on the fence about signing with the Lakers with talk of him potentially wanting to join the Miami Heat.
Despite Wood’s reported reluctance, the veteran big man chose to sign with his hometown team, and as a result, the Lakers could be one of the deepest teams in the league coming into the 2023-24 NBA season.
However, not everyone is thrilled with the move to bring in Wood, with Jason Timpf of The Volume Sports poking holes in the team’s logic.
“The Lakers have monumentally improved within the scope of the regular season”

Timpf believes the Lakers may have missed an opportunity to bring in a big man with size in order to compete against the best big men in the league, like Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Although this is true, the Lakers are still one of the most talented and deep teams in the league, and that could offset the lack of size in the paint to a degree, but only time will tell if they made the right moves this summer.
